Score my answer

Tell me about yourself

The interviewer asks you to open with this. Give a clear, compelling 60-to-90-second answer that connects where you are, how you got there, and why this role is the next step.

Aim for about 75 seconds of answer.

Your answer to one interview question is a better signal than a resume. It tells the interviewer how you think under light pressure, how you structure a point, and whether they'd trust you in front of their own boss.

How the score works

Six dimensions, each 0 to 100. The weighted average is your overall score.

  • Clarity — Is the main point obvious in the first sentence?
  • Confidence — Authoritative tone, decisive language, no hedging reflex.
  • Structure — A clean framework (BLUF, Point-Evidence-Ask, Past-Present-Future).
  • Conciseness — Minimum words to make the point.
  • Audience awareness — Is the answer tuned to who's listening?
  • Delivery — For text: cadence, rhythm, readability. The full app measures actual voice.

What to do with the result

Read the credibility rewrite first. It's the same answer, tightened to an interview-grade version. The gap between what you wrote and that rewrite is the thing to practice.

Score the same question again. Most people jump 10+ points on the second try. That's the practice effect the full app is built to compound.

One number isn't a verdict

The score is a sharpening tool, not a grade. Interviewers weight dimensions differently — a consulting firm cares about structure; a startup cares about confidence. The dimensional breakdown tells you which muscle to train.

Frequently asked questions

How is the score calculated?
Your answer is graded against a six-dimension rubric used by Interview Drills: clarity, confidence, structure, conciseness, audience awareness, and delivery. The same Claude-powered scorer that runs inside the full app grades this preview — you're getting the real product, not a demo.
Why is my score lower than I expected?
The rubric rewards direct, structured answers with specific detail. Hedging language, filler, buried leads, and missing context all pull scores down. The 'credibility rewrite' shows you a tighter version of what you said — use it to spot the gap.
What counts as a good score?
Above 75 is solid. Above 85 is interview-ready. The scorer is deliberately calibrated to real interviewer standards — scores cluster in the 55-75 range for first drafts, which is the signal that there's room to improve.
Does this save my answer?
No. The preview runs without an account and the text you type is not stored. Sharing a score generates a signed URL that carries your score numbers, but never the text of your answer.
Why only text? Can I record my voice?
The preview is text-only to keep the page fast and browser-friendly. The full app at app.interviewdrills.com scores your actual voice — words per minute, filler frequency, pace variation, pause detection — on top of the same six-dimension rubric.
